How to match a tie

Your key to success often depends on how you dress. Negotiate a business deal successfully by making sure that your tie matches your shirt.

With Plain shirt

When you are wearing a plain shirt to office or business meet, pair it with a patterned tie. Play with the color, texture and the design of the tie as there is a lot of room for experiment.

With Small patterned shirt

When you have a small patterned shirt, make sure to pair it with a little patterned tie. Embossed paisley prints or subtle stripes look good on small patterned shirt.

With Bold shirt

When your shirt is making the most statement, it can become trickier to match the right tie with the shirt. The best that you can do is match a plain tie with the shirt as that will focus on the shirt more.

If you choose light colors like sky blue or mauve, you can experiment with different designs and types of ties starting from the checkered to spotted or even striped. However when you wear shirts with stripes on them, opt for thin stripes on the tie as that will look smart. You can also choose a plain solid colored tie to make it the perfect office wear.

For any events other than office

Contrasting shirt colors and ties can look great for events. This combination can make you look super stylish and at the same time very sleek as well. Keep in mind that stripes and the checks do not go well together. So never make the mistake of wearing a check shirt with a stripe tie. However with checks you can try the tie with wider stripes if you are rather confident with your worth and self esteem.

How to clean and maintain the tie

It is but normal to get your tie off as soon as you come back home after a hard day’s work from office, it is important to remove your tie in a proper manner. Removing the tie properly can actually make a whole lot of difference in the way your tie is maintained for its longevity. Never pull the thin side of the tie through the knot as that will ruin the shape of the tie. When you are not using the tie, keep it open and not in knots as that will create creases on the tie that will be permanent in nature and make the tie look limp and de-shaped.

Storage of ties

Ties can easily get disfigured since they are very delicate. Always hang your ties when they are not in use as it will reduce the wrinkles and creases on the tie. Invest in a good tie rack and store them in an organized manner as that will only help you in increasing the longevity of the ties. If you have knit ties in your collection, you should store them in rolled form as that will keep the knits in shape and tightly woven.

Cleaning of ties

Clean your ties only when they are dirty and not after every use. Always wash your ties by hand or go for the dry cleaning option. Air drying the ties is also the safest to keep them fit and undamaged. If you have a stain on the tie, it can be difficult to clean it. As soon as you get a stain on the tie, you should make it a point to clean it. Use talcum powder to remove the stain if it is oily. Else you can also use club soda to clean the stain and then let it sit for a few hours. Brush off with a soft cloth later.

The difference between silk tie and polyester tie

Knowing the fabric of the tie is an important factor that can drive the considerations for buying a tie for you. Ties are made with different fabrics and depending on your preference and budget, you can make your choice from the variety of fabrics. Of all the available fabrics of tie, two best choices are silk and polyester. While silk ties are classic and stylish, polyesters can be cheaper option.

Silk tie

The silk ties are staple and at the same time a luxurious choice. Silk is exclusively used for ties by several tie designers as it makes the mark for a man with classic taste. Silk ties also can vary in fabric and texture and depending on the fabric, the ties can range from smooth, crunchy or even stiff. Silk ties can be worn for corporate conferences, meetings and client interaction projects. They can be worn throughout the year. The disadvantage of silk ties is that it gets wrinkled very easily and it is also very expensive. And if you want to clean the tie, you have to give it to the dry cleaners for the job.

Polyester tie

Polyester is a synthetic material that is created from petroleum byproducts. It can also be used for making satin ties. It is cheaper and looks very similar to silk ties and hence is a popular choice for many men. The best thing about polyester is that it is waterproof and also stain resistant. However it can become rough in texture if it is exposed to strong heat or the sun and can also hold on to the smell of the perfume for long time. The disadvantage of polyester ties include the fact that they cannot be ironed as they cannot stand strong heat and they are also very stiff which makes it difficult to tie the knot.
